💻 Quick Start: How to Log In to Your New Laptop¶
Welcome to your new device!
Follow these steps to sign in using your Microsoft 365 Work account.
Before You Begin: Connect to the Internet
Before logging in for the first time, make sure your laptop is connected to a network:
- Wi-Fi: Click the network icon in the bottom-right corner of the screen and select your wireless network.
- Ethernet: Plug a network cable into the ethernet port on your laptop or docking station.
A network connection is required for Windows to verify your work account credentials on first login.
Step 1: Access the Login Screen¶
- Turn on your laptop and wait for the lock screen to appear.
- Click anywhere or press any key to show the sign-in options.
Step 2: Select "Other User"¶
- In the bottom-left corner of the screen, look for a list of users.
- Click on Other user. (If you only see a username field, skip to Step 3).
Step 3: Enter Your Credentials¶
- Username: Type your full company email address (e.g.,
your.name@questcominc.com). - Password: Enter your standard work password.
- Press Enter or click the arrow button.
Step 4: Security Setup (First Time Only)¶
- Verify Your Identity: You may be asked to approve a notification on your phone via the Microsoft Authenticator app or enter a code sent to your mobile device.
- Create a PIN: Windows will likely ask you to set up a Windows Hello PIN. This is a 4-6 digit code used to unlock this specific laptop quickly in the future. Follow the on-screen prompts to set this up.
Step 5: Wait for Setup¶
- Since this is your first time logging in, Windows will take a few minutes to prepare your desktop and install your company’s apps. Please keep the laptop plugged into power and do not turn it off.
